Mar, 2013-03-04 11:51

This report indicates that the situation of food and nutritional security for the people in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) continues to deteriorate. About 6.4 million people in the DRC are in food crisis and require emergency humanitarian assistance. This number represents an increase of 1.6% compared to the situation in October 2012, and a 19% increase since July 2012. Renewed fighting between the FARDC and M23 rebel group has significantly contributed to the deterioration of food security and nutrition. Armed conflict not only in the province of North Kivu but also in South Kivu, Orientale, Maniema and Katanga has caused internal displacement and disrupted livelihoods, leading to a subsequent deterioration of the food security and nutritional status of affected populations.
